Realizing a world of abundance,

by embracing our limits.

What could make “sustainable finance” genuinely sustainable?

This is one of the questions at the heart of our work. We believe that changing some key assumptions about economics could enable finance to become more fit for purpose, opening up a wider spectrum of possibilities for realizing more desirable futures.

Current tools and models limit our ability to act. They were built on presumptions of infinite growth and limited conceptions of value that don’t reflect our current reality. We can do better.

By embracing the limits of our planet and putting wellbeing at the center of our economies, we can transition to a future-fit financial system that meaningfully contributes to better outcomes.

Together, we can craft a new vision for what genuinely sustainable finance can be, in line with scientific findings on planetary boundaries and human needs.

This is an invitation to help us find a better way.

Our Mission

At Arketa Institute, we work with investment professionals and others within the finance industry to align the financial system with environmental and wellbeing needs, now and into the future.

By providing research insights, collaborating on solution development, and directly supporting our peers in the finance industry, we seek to contribute to an economy that can provide for the needs of all within the limits of our planet.

ARKETA: αρκετά: (ar-ke-TÁ)

Greek for "enough", our namesake is also our inspiration: a reminder that we, and the resources we have, are enough.

We have what we need to realize a sustainable economy. But we must re-align the ground rules with the limits that physics and chemistry place upon us. Pursuing infinite growth is ultimately self-destructive. Instead, we at Arketa Institute work towards an economy of enough: one where we use less materials and energy, while having more time, healthier communities, and greater focus on that which makes life worthwhile.

A future in which we move from the old model that’s destroying us towards a new one that uplifts us.

That would be more than enough for us.
